Flying Girls Get It Done

In 1987, Charlie, nineteen, receives a letter mailed to her deceased grandmother and pleading for help. Searching for the writer’s identity, Charlie follows clues to an airfield in Texas where the Army trained female WASP pilots to fly fighters and bombers during WWII. Binny, a child of German parents, but opposed to the Nazis, becomes a WASP in 1943. After she’s accused of being a German agent and threatened, she steals a P-38 and flies it north to meet Charlie’s grandmother. Landing gear trouble forces her to bail out over the mountains. During the story, Charlie overcomes her panic about flying, counters a right wing evangelical, tries to block Nazi plans, and meets her Gran’s long lost best friend.
