Ariadni Faraday gets engaged to boring Edwin Beaumont in the hopes of marrying her younger brother David off to Edwin’s stepsister Merilee. David realizes her strategy and enlists the aid of Ralph Hanover, his comrade-in-arms, to rescue Ari. When they all arrive at the Willows, Meri’s country estate, David falls immediately and hopelessly in love with Meri. When Edwin tries to kill his stepsister Meri’s dog Princess, Ariadne breaks their engagement. Edwin spreads horrible gossip about Meri in the village, causing her to ride away from home in despair. David and Ralph rescue her, and all go to London hoping for happy weddings. But the banished Edwin is at large and both soldiers anticipate trouble, though they never expect an abduction.
